Description
A Dream Come True Playground is totally accessible and inclusive. The playground started with a group of Girl Scouts and their community service project. Their vision was to design and build a playground where
children with and without disabilities could play together.
The playground has many unique and one-of-a-kind features. It has separate equipment for 2-5 year old children as well as 5-12 year old kids. Park features include a rock, rainbow arches, shade structures, roadway, hammock swing, and draw wall. There is also a pavilion and family comfort stations are fully accessible.
A Dream Come True Playground and The Liberty Swing
The Liberty Swing provides children in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of swinging in a park. It is the only swing of its type that is fully lockable and allows a maximum swing height. The inventor believed that these swings should be included in traditional play areas. This way all children can enjoy the park.
After your visit to A Dream Come True Playground, head over to the Harrisonburg Fire Department Museum in the Public Safety Building.
